Production-grade PostgreSQL with high availability, automated backups, and the extensions you need—fully managed on Thalassa Cloud.
Last year we introduced Database as a Service (DBaaS) with PostgreSQL. In January 2026 we added the next set of features. Thalassa Cloud’s DBaaS for PostgreSQL gives DevOps teams a fully managed, production-ready Postgres experience—from high availability and automated backups to extensions for analytics and data workloads. Here’s an overview of what the service offers and what’s new.
Our Database service is built for high availability and uptime. We support multiple instances per database cluster. You do not pick the availability zone your database runs in; instead, instances are automatically spread across the availability zones within your region. So your databases stay available even when individual nodes or availability zones have issues. For more information on architecture and failover behaviour, see our High Availability documentation.
You choose a weekly maintenance window. We handle the rest: patches, major upgrades, and hardware-related switch-overs run automatically in that window so you can focus on your applications.
We have replaced our snapshot-based backup approach with Barman and point-in-time recovery support.
Backups are stored in object storage that you can access. That makes it straightforward to:
You keep control of your data and can replicate or restore wherever you need (including on a different cloud provider). You are also able to create new database clusters based off the Barman backups created from your Postgres cluster, either through our Console, the CLI or API.
You get full control over logical resources: create and manage databases, roles, and extensions through the Console or API. No need to log into the underlying OS; everything is managed through the platform (simply using Postgres directly is also possible).
We initially launched our Postgres service with a limited number of extensions. Based on populair demand, our januari update has expanded our supported extensions with many more, most notibly we introduced support timeseries, AI and data analytics workloads. You can enable and manage extensions per database from the Console or API—no need to maintain your own Postgres build.
Notable additions include:
We support more extensions besides these. For the full list and version support, see our extensions documentation.
Thalassa Cloud’s DBaaS for PostgreSQL lets you focus on building applications on our EU Cloud. Now fully available for all our users, and rapidly expanding with new and improved features. Some of the future improvements and additions we will be introducing is; Database Cluster Revision support; allowing rollbacks of your cluster spec, improvements to Point-in-Time (PITR).
If you’re ready to run Postgres on our European Cloud platform, head to the Console to create a cluster or browse the DBaaS Postgres documentation for detailed guides.
